I think I've just been kind of spastic about the project as a whole, which is a lot of how my life is in general these days.
In the end I ended up just making one quilt/blanket thing, and it renewed my annoyance with sewing with minki fabric because while it is the softest cutest stuff ever it stretches and makes life super annoying.
Today I ran by Target on my way home and bought a pack of plain white onesies and appliqued the fronts, one with a flower and one with an 'F' for Freyja. I'm reasonably pleased, still wish I could have done better but am satisfied with my work enough to give it to her.
I remember listening to Amy Karol on a Craftsanity interview talking about giving homemade gifts and she was talking about how when you give someone something homemade that even when there are problems with it that are screaming to you to be noticed, that you still can't point them out to the recipient. Thus when she opens the present tomorrow I won't point out that the top of the quilt does not lay flat onto the bottom piece, nor will I point out how the appliques are not perfect. But, I will vent them to you and let that be the end of it.
I even made a card to go with it a la My Longest Year.
I'm really excited for the shower tomorrow even though I think it's going to be rushed as we're doing it doing our lunch hour!

Whoa! You really know how to give gifts! Those are precious!
Oh, cute! I used flannel once as interlining and it drove me batty because of the stretch, like you said, so I think I understand what you mean about the blankets. Hey, but you made one! Another time you'll try again. I love the appliqued onesies and the card puts a nice touch to your gift.
We all need to remember handmade is ALWAYS more special, what we call "flaws" so insignificant.
Have a great time!
absolutely precious.
